The Brothers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (SHJ) is an indigenous, religious Congregation, founded by Rev. Fr. Adrian Caussanel, S.J., a Jesuit missionary, in the year 1903 in Tamil Nadu, S.India. It is the first of its kind in India.
The Congregation has gracefully pioneered into a century old meritorious service in India and marching head gloriously in their service to the Humanity across the Globe. The Congregation was canonically erected on 20th June 1952 and was recognized as an Institute of Pontifical Right on 11th February, 1999.
At the heart of every Sacred Heart Brother lies a preferential love for Christ Himself and passion for the poor which the brothers transform into action through Education, Evangelization and Social Action.
With the Charism of ‘Good News to the Poor in the love of the Sacred Heart’, the Congregation works with the poor and the marginalized to transform the human community into a sustainable and equitable social order.
